I wanted so desperately to grab my children and run. Angry threats continued as he cocked the revolver and raised it to his head. I turned to move away. He slowly began counting then yelled, “walk out of that door, and I’m pulling the trigger.” In horror and disbelief I froze. My soul silently screamed, for God to give me the courage to run. God lovingly answered, “Fear not, simply wait.”
God knew this was not the time to act. He was already at work preparing the perfect time and means of escape. He knew how desperately this man needed help. He was clearly aware of all circumstances leading up to this point. Nothing was hidden from His eyes. In fact, even as everything fell horribly apart and went terribly wrong, He was already lovingly filtering the broken pieces through His hands.
I would love to say that my faith was so strong that I unwaveringly waited humbly in prayer, but I was not there at that time. What I can say is that I knew His voice when I so clearly heard it that awful day, and I knew I had reached the end of myself. So I waited. I fearfully waited.
I do not know what you may be facing that is creating a time of fearful waiting in your life. It could be a troubled marriage. It could be a health issue. It could be a child on the brink of destruction. It could be a loved one serving in the military. It could be a legal battle or financial crisis. Whatever your situation, I am here to testify and to encourage you to know that God is faithful. You can rest assured that your Heavenly Father is lovingly waiting to give you the wisdom, courage, and comfort you so desperately need. Simply cry out to Him as you fearfully wait.
“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalms 27:14
“He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday. Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.” Psalm 91:4-8
