Encouragement for God's Ladies in Waiting of all Ages at all Stages

Chapter 012 – Comfort in Times of Waiting

I sat in the waiting area of the quaint old home the church had converted into office space. There was a sense of calm in the fact this was once someone’s home, and yet an air of discomfort for the very same reason. I remember thinking how strange it is that life is little more than a series of momentary still shots. Once rolled past the projector they are forever gone except for those images stored in memory.

I wondered whether this had been a happy home or one of pain and anger. I was drawn back to the present by a piece of crumpled paper on the floor. The edge was barely visible from where it had apparently fallen and landed under the sofa. Curiosity suddenly got the best of me, and with a quick glance around to ensure no one was watching, I bent over and retrieved the paper. The large grandfather clock ticked loudly in the silent room as I debated if I should read it or simply throw it in the trash.

No longer able to stand the suspense, I chose to open it. There written in beautiful handwriting was a scripture that has become branded on my heart. Little did I know it would take me through many challenging and difficult days ahead. It read, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

It is funny how the Holy Spirit can cut through to the core of our soul. For the past month I had been going through the motions, carrying a smile that did not quite reach all the way to my eyes. In that moment, all of the emotions locked away behind the empty smile and the blank stare burst forth as if a dam had broken in my heart. Almost as if on cue, the therapist opened the door, and with an understanding look and an outstretched hand, she welcomed me to her office.

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

“The future is as bright as the promises of God.” Adoniram Judson

1 Peter 5: 7 Cast all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.
